Norbert Szabó, Krisztián Józsa & Márta Janurik: Digital Devices in School Music Lessons: Results of an Educational Experiment Among First Grade Elementary School Students This research examined the impacts of a digital music education program – an application called Zenesziget (Music Island) which was developed by us for use in school music lessons – on the development of students’ music reading, instrumental knowledge, singing and their attitude towards school music lessons. The quasi-experimental design included 100 first grade students in the experimental group and 103 first grade students in the control group. The program ran for one school year. Students of the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher progress in music reading and instrumental knowledge. Significantly higher achievement was measured in the experimental group in singing as well. Moreover, the digital education program contributed to a significantly more positive attitude towards school music lessons among the participants of the experimental group. Results suggest that the Zenesziget music application offers favourable outcomes in music education by enhancing achievement in music and promoting a positive attitude towards school music lessons.
