Julia Rózsa: What do Hungarian and German students of computer science mean by learning? Computer science students were asked about their concepts of learning in Germany and Hungary. A questionnaire was developed especially to interpret these subjective understandings based on descriptions and examples of learning concepts. Based on the categories developed by Saljö then modified by Marton, Dall'Alba and Beaty, these categories include increase in knowledge; acquisition and recall; practical application; learning as understanding; change in approach; change as person; increase in experience; and hypotheses. The results of the ANOVA performed revealed that the two groups significantly differ regarding memory and recall and understanding. Hungarian students of computer science considered understanding the most important, whereas the Germans stressed memory and recall the most. MAGYAR PEDAGÓGIA 101. Number 1. 133-140.
