Gábor Tóth : Music teacher training in teacher training colleges Between 1887 and 1898, music teacher training in teacher training collegewas accomplished within the framework of a one-year course, based on the qualification of higher elementary school singing teachers. In 1898, the training was referred to the competence of the Hungarian Academy of Music by the minister's order. The organization of music teacher training in teacher training colleges(arts and sciences) in 1906 and the establishment of Apponyi Kollégium (Apponyi College) created the framework of training music teachers specialized in different subjects in teacher training colleges. In 1908, The Minister of Religion and Education regulated by decree the training of music teachers in teacher training collages. The two-year course was partly based on the studies of higher elementary school singing teachers, partly on the studies in the Academy of Music. Music teacher training in teacher training institutes involved the joint work of Apponyi Kollégium, the Academy of Music and the Practising Teacher Training College. Until 1930, Apponyi Kollégium in Bu-dapest co-ordinated the training of the trainees of different subjects in teacher training coll-eges. From 1930, music teacher training together with drawing teacher traing functioned in Budapest as the Budapest section of the Apponyi Kollégium in Szeged. This music teacher training was extincted in 1948. MAGYAR PEDAGÓGIA 94. Number 1-2. 95-111. (1994) Levelezési cím / Address for correspondence: Tóth Gábor, H–1221 Budapest, Városház tér 6. |
